Frequently Asked Questions

What is alternative education?

Our program is directed towards students who are behind in their credits and we work to get them caught up to either return to a traditional high school setting or to graduate from our program with a high school diploma.

How old do you have to be to enroll at 54th Street Academy?

Our program is designed for traditional-age high school students but we are able to enroll students under the age of 20.

Do you offer transportation to and from school?

A Rapid Bus stop on the Division (#1) route is located very near to our building. At this time, we are not able to provide transportation for our program.

Do you offer a completely online program?

54th Street Academy does not offer a completely online program at this time.

Are cell phones/personal electronic devices allowed during the school day?

With the success of the No Cell Policy at KHS, we have adopted that policy as well. Students will turn in their cell phones each day when they enter the building at the beginning of the day. They are then stored in the office of the program director. As students leave at the end of each day, they are able to pick them up. Students have access to a phone in the main office should they need to reach out to a parent or guardian. All of the details of this policy as well as the discipline for not following the policy are located in our 54th Street Parent/Student Handbook.
